"In every man's writings, the character of the writer must lie recorded."
Goethe.
Perhaps, you'll find traces of Mangesh's character in each of his articles too.
September 2004 saw the birth of Mangesh Ghogre as a freelance writer. What began as a mere leisurely attempt at using the written word to capture a profound passing thought turned into about four dozen newspaper publications.
Mangesh was born and brought up in Mumbai, and hasn't left the city since. Life in Mumbai has its ways of teaching you a thing or two about survival, and probing you to dig just a tad deeper into the real essence of life. But it is only now that Mangesh realizes how much of his life, his way of thinking, and even his writing was shaped and influenced not just by the city but also by his caring parents, his loving wife, as well as his gurus. Mangesh owes and tributes his writings to them all.
Over 45 of Mangesh's articles have been published so far in leading newspapers of India, such as The Economic Times, The Hindu Business Line, Deccan Herald, The Times of India and its much-followed column called The Speaking Tree. With the column publishing articles from eminent personalities, like former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Sri Sri Ravi Shanker, Khushwant Singh, Tina Ambani, Mata Amritanandmayi, Deepak Chopra and Osho, Mangesh felt humble pride when one of his articles for that column was later chosen to be included in a book titled "Everyman's Speaking Tree" published by the Times of India.
The right-brain hobby of writing helps Mangesh balance his left-brain profession that puts bread on his table. Mangesh is an investment banker with a global bank. An MBA-Finance from NMIMS, with an underlying Mechanical Engineering from VJTI, has prepared Mangesh to make that extra buck, while he spends the leisure hours pursuing his writings in spirituality, philosophy, education, humour and youth issues. During the weekends Mangesh tries to give back to his alma mater, Fr Agnels Junior College, by mentoring its students on non-academic activities and personality development. The remaining hours he uses to flirt with crosswords - regularly solving the Daily Crossword published in the Times of India, and even taking to crossword construction occasionally. In fact, Mangesh has the distinction of being the first India-based crossword constructor to have had his crossword published in the Los Angeles Times.
Paulo Coelho said in his book The Alchemist, All is written by the same hand. In that perspective, Mangesh's writing will make you think deeper, perhaps it will make you giggle, or it may simply bring you joy in seeing the words from the dictionary mingle yet again to express a thought beautifully.
Go on, read Mangesh's articles at your leisure and enjoy them, for...
"Really the writer doesn't want success. . . .He knows he has a short span of life, that the day will come when he must pass through the wall of oblivion, and he wants to leave a scratch on that wall - that somebody a hundred years, or a thousand years later will see."
From Faulkner in the University, 1959, Session 8
